December 6, 2004 PRIDE, La.- New superintendent Charlotte Placide will recognize over
one hundred and forty Northeast Elementary students Monday for completing
the “ALL STARS” program. The “ALL STARS” program encourages children to make the best decisions about avoiding risky behaviors such as smoking, drinking alcohol, and using drugs. The ceremony honors sixth graders that participated in the 14 week program. Each session is held during physical education and includes games, debates, and art exercises. At home parents help complete worksheets that help them talk about important issues with their child. Children then set goals and make commitments to live a healthy and successful life. “ALL STARS” is being taught by trained teachers employed by Northeast Elementary and High Schools and trained health center staff employed by Health Care Centers in Schools. Funding is provided through a grant from the Louisiana Partners in Prevention. “ALL STARS” was created by Dr. William Hansen of Tanglewood Research, Inc., an internationally known expert in drug abuse and problem behaviors.
